Bang Productions Ltd cinematic audio adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's The Dunwich Horror is a tale mystery, terror and a massive invisible monster.

Set in the fictional township of Dunwich, Massachusetts, it tells the story of Wilbur Whateley attempt to let into this world the ancient and terrible beings that are The Old Ones, thus bringing about the destruction of the entire planet, and the race against time by Dr Henry Armitage to stop him.

The story starts in 1913 with the birth by mysterious means of Wilbur Whateley. He is born into a squalid and fetid farmhouse occupied solely by his backward mother and half-insane grandfather.

Rumours of black magic surround the family and it is evident that Wilbur’s father, of whom there has never been any sign, might not be entirely of this plane of existence.

As Wilbur grows at a frighteningly unnatural rate, and his appearance becomes even more monstrous, the rumours of his mysterious parentage increase and a blanket of fear smoothers the already dark and brooding region. The fear of the townsfolk is further augmented by the sinister goings on at the Whateley farmhouse: Wilbur and his grandfather are obviously keeping something terrifying in the building and from the vast amount of livestock the family are purchasing, it is growing at an even faster rate than Wilbur....

This, combined with the fact that Wilbur is being taught from his grandfathers evil and ancient books, brings about the realisation in some that Wilbur, and the monstrous thing in the farmhouse,
were brought into this world to achieve some terrible purpose. Yet, Wilbur's knowledge is incomplete. On his death bed Old Whateley urges Wilbur to finish what they started. To do this Wilbur will need the page from the book of the dead: the dreaded Necronomicon.

With the only copy nearby being held under lock and key at the Miskatonic University in Arkham, Wilbur ventures to the library there to borrow the book. His appearance and request for the book immediately bring his attention to the university librarian: Dr Henry Armitage, an expert in the legends of the region and the Necronomicon.

After he refuses Wilbur's request to borrow the volume, Wilbur is attacked and killed by the university's guard dogs when he breaks into the library in an attempt to steal the book. As Wilbur lays dying on the floor of the library it is evident that he is far from fully human. This discovery spurs Armitage into action and he sets out to discovery everything he can about Wilbur and his family.

At the same time that Dr Armitage is discovering the plans of the now deceased Whateley family, a far more terrifying occurrence is taking place at the no abandoned farmhouse. With no one to feed it, the now enormous entity the Whateley's were keeping there, now bursts forth....

It is invisible, yet from the massive amount of violence it now inflicts upon the stricken region ripping apart and devouring cattle, destroying houses and savagely killing townsfolk it is vast and has to be destroyed.

When news of the monstrous entity reaches Dr Armitage he, accompanied by two of his colleagues, immediately travel to Dunwich and track down the monster to destroy it.

After a chase through the woods, the three academics confront the entity on the top of Sentinel Hill, the place where the Whateley's were going to let the Old Ones into our world. Reciting the incantations from the Necronomicon needed to send the creature back, a giant battle of wills takes place between Armitage and the creature until it is, ultimately, sent back into the abyss.

Just before the monster is “dispersed” it cries it's father's name and we come to realise that it was not something that Wilbur Whateley called from beyond it was his twin brother.
